Cambodians and Alcoholic Drinks: Is it considered bad in Cambodia?

This topic I was once asked by foreigners the question is "Does drinking alcohol considered bad in Cambodia?" and "Do Cambodians drink alcohol? if so Do Cambodian women drink beer?" it might be a little bit controversial in Cambodians' perspective and there are some myths about this topic. 

Cambodians are not really strict about alcohol as they do in past. Today Cambodia is one of the top countries that consume the most alcoholic drinks in Asia, Cambodians drink a lot of beer!

Of course, there are some Cambodians who are determined not to drink alcohol by the religion following or by their determination but I doubt how little the percentage is.

Do Cambodians Drink Alcoholic Drinks

Cambodians drink a lot of alcohol! Staying in Cambodia you see a lot of beer advertisements on TV, in music videos, in movies, and even along the roads. Almost every occasion from friends' meetings, parties, birthday parties, work negotiations, and weddings beer became an essential element.

It was mostly men's choice many years ago and now I see women in Cambodia also enjoy alcoholic drinks and the country is more open now. In the past, the elder often said the man who is addicted to alcoholic drinks is a really bad man but today everyone seems to accept that and another saying comes "a man who doesn't drink alcohol is not a real man". 

There is a lot to dive deeper but I think it is too controversial to talk about that since the question is "Do Cambodians Drink Alcoholic Drinks?" and the answer is yes and they do drink a lot that it already became a habit.

What kind of Alcoholic Drinks is popular in Cambodia?

Beer is the most trending alcoholic in Cambodia there are many brands and new ones coming once in a while. There are beer breweries in Cambodia that produce tons of beers every day to fulfill the need of the drinkers. They are really busy all year long.

Is Drinking Alcohol Considered bad in Cambodia?

Drinking alcohol was considered bad behavior in the past, but today it becomes a normal thing and it even becomes strange if a man doesn't drink beer. I'm not against alcohol but sometimes I think they are being too overhyped about it. From Drinking alcohol is bad to doesn't drink alcohol is bad.

There are some more and Cambodians have descriptions about each one which I don't want to talk about because this is just a preference and I don't want to promote that. I'm not against it nor good with it I just write to share the information.

It is a myth that Cambodians don't drink alcohol

I came across some articles saying Cambodians don't drink a lot of alcohol I don't if the writer is in Cambodia or in somewhere in the world that writes just what they think. 

As a Cambodian citizen, I'm not proud to say that Cambodians drink a hell lot of beer, but I have to admit it because it is the real truth. I am not mad that people think Cambodians don't drink alcohol but thankful to them that they describe it in a good way.
